Designing for delight - What is the user experience and how should it affect my product strategy?

In 2003, Steve Jobs gave a private presentation of the iTunes Music Store to some independent record label people. People kept raising their hand saying,“Does it do [x]?”,“Do you plan to add [y]?”. Finally, Jobs said “Wait, wait!. Put your hands down. Listen: I know you have a thousand ideas for all the cool features iTunes could have. So do we. But we don’t want a thousand features. That would be ugly. Innovation is not about saying yes to everything. It’s about saying NO to all but the most crucial features."

How do you know which are the crucial features and which are bloat? How do you plan products that are rich, yet simple? How do you create products that delight customers? This workshop will show you how to turn the endless stream of requests, requirements and ideas from users and stakeholders into a coherent product roadmap. Using case studies and hands-on exercises, you'll learn how to plan products that delight your customers.

Giles Colborne has worked with companies ranging from Kelkoo to LOVEFiLM helping them design products and services that delight customers. He is Managing Director of cxpartners and author of Simple and Usable: web, mobile and interaction design.
