Event Details

Help remove silver birch trees from moorland and burn them up.  We will be cooking a baked potatoes in the fire for lunch so bring a filling to go with it.

There will be tool safety talks and full supervision through out the day. 

 

Volunteer helpers should arrive at 9am for briefing before groups arrive from 10am. 

If you can’t make the whole day please let us know when booking.

 

When you arrive there will be a 20 minuet walk to the bonfire site before we start the work cutting and burning up.

Suitable for sensible 8 year olds and over.

You will need to bring

  • Sturdy footwear
  • Gardening clothes including a waterproof and a warm layer.
  • Drink and any food you want to go with a jacket potato.

SAFETY TALK.

Start of each walk/event.  Stress how long 5 hours& 1 mile, the type of terrain to be covered /uneven.

Safe working practices including how to use any tools, and on site behaviour, especially around traffic keep in group, most visible area, hi vis. 

Check and advise on Footwear/clothing as well as medical conditions ask to be told of any as walk starts. 

There should be first aid provision on site and if a Trained walking group leader should be on site if more than 30mins walk from base / help point. Check for fatigue through the event.

 

Risk Assessment / Safe Operating Practice, this may be updated and changed by authorised persons as required.  If in doubt about safety stop work

 Trips / Falls  Staff & Public  Bruising / Strains / Breaks / Death.  Most walks / events take place on uneven ground with many slips and trip hazards, the groups should be made  be made aware of this, and and major hazards (cliff faces hidden drops or unobvious slipery surfaces) be pointed out.  L  
 Animal bites  Staff & Public  lymes diease, infection   participants should be warned about ticks and adders and encrouraged to seek medical advise if bitten  L  
 Contact with hand tools  Staff & Public   cuts, brusing Inspect tools before use and do not use any that are damaged.  No Gloves should be worn to be used when using swinging tools.  Saw: gloves to be worn on non sawing hand.  Instruction to be given to group about safe tool use in safety talk.  sturdy foow wear with good grip to be worn.  Toolsmust be maintained in good condition and kept sharp.  refer to volunnteer habd book if in doubt  L  
 Pre-existing Medical conditions  Group members inapropiate treatment given   Group members should be encrouraged to tell leader of any medical conditions or other issues that may affect them on the day  L

 

 

 

 

 Getting Lost  All Delay in returning/ getting help the group leader should know the site and be aware of the following, best access points for help, grid reference of location, best landing points for an air amblaunce, mobile phone coverage, nearest landline phone.   L
