About SewYou

SewYou was founded in 2010 when Abi Manifold turned her passion of 25 years into a successful small business.

Abi is an experienced Workshop Leader, ILM qualified Facilitator/Coach and a Sewing Tutor for JanomeUK. She works with Adults, Children and Community Groups.

These sessions are fun, highly practical and a chance to spend a relaxed day with like-minded people. Plain english is advocated (no jargon!), you get lots of explanation and see a live demo of all the techniques covered before trying them out yourself with Abi's guidance.

About this MasterClass Workshop

Workshops are in Abi's own studio. They're small and informal so you grow your skills and confidence to take your sewing to the next level.

You learn on one of Abi's new Computerised Sewing Machines - or - some people bring their own Sewing Machine along (just make sure you can either cover or lower the Feed Dogs. If you're not sure, get in touch and we'll work it out over the phone!)

Who's this workshop for?

People with Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced sewing experience who'd like to explore Machine Embroidery and Appliqué to add a new dimension to projects. 

In essence, if you can thread a machine and do a straight stitch - you're good to go. If you're not sure - get in touch and we can talk it through.

What will you cover?

Based around an individual Textile project you design and take home at the end, Abi guides you through:

• Safety
• Fabric selection and preparation
• Using a Rotary Cutter and Mat
• Types of Thread
• Machine Feet and how to use them (Embroidery / Quilting / Appliqué)
• Designing your own patterns for Embroidery and Appliqué
• Using Bond-a-web
• Using Interfacing
• Types of Fabric Adhesive and when/how to use them
• Using an Embroidery Hoop
• Freehand machine stitching - (including Handwriting and Drawing with thread)
• Hard Edge Appliqué
• Rough Edge Appliqué
• Creating lettering using templates and freehand
• Layering fabrics to create depth
