CHALLENGE: Make innovative new culture-related projects in just 36 hours.
Culture Hack is a fast-paced and highly creative event that challenges designers, technologists, creatives and artists to develop ideas with newly released arts and culture data. Read the blog to catch up on data announcements so far here.
You can stay for as little or as long as you like - refreshments and overnight facilities will be provided - all for free. Saturday will kick off with introductions into the data, followed by hacking, paper prototyping and talks. Hacking will continue through til Sunday when we'll finish off with a finale showcase.
On Saturday afternoon, everyone is welcome to attend the talks, showing the best thinking and doing at the intersection of culture and technology, from:
Dr Robert Mullins, co-founder and trustee of Raspberry Pi, will be giving “A Slice of Pi”
Dr Zoe Svendsen, Artistic Director, Metis Arts, and Cambridge University Research Fellow on “Art generating data, data generating art”
Daniel Jones, artist, designer and programmer, on his collaboration with Britten Sinfonia, The Listening Machine
Chris Styles, Principle Applications Engineer, Online Tools, ARM and founder of mbed, will demonstrate the mbed microcontroller
Artist Duncan Speakman will give a preview twilight musical adventure “Of Sleeping Birds”
Dr Rob Toulson, Research Fellow at the CoDE Research Institute at Anglia Ruskin University, will discuss “Cross-Disciplinary Research in the Cultures of the Digital Economy Research Institute”
Michael Dales, founder of Digital Flapjack will offer “A culturist's guide to how the Internet does and doesn't work, and to do about it”
Jason Fitzpatrick, will introduce the Computer History Museum
Everyone who has signed up for the Hack Day can attend the talks. Talks Only tickets will allow entry to the Talks and Make and Do show and tell.
