How to build a life working from anywhere
Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
London, United Kingdom
Imagine a lifestyle where the vast majority of your work was done online, on your own terms - working on projects you believe in, and own. This kind of location independent lifestyle is already being lived by thousands around the world, who are integrating travel into their overall lifestyle. But how do you find the work? How do you develop those skills? We've got an event to help bring you closer to this dream.
"I left university with no clue about what I wanted to do and foolishly thought that consulting would help me figure that out. I'd never planned to stay in consulting for so long but became stuck in the "not knowing what else to do" and earning lots of money traps." - Lea Woodward
Join us for this session on location independence, with special guests Lea Woodward and Matt Cynamon.
Lea was a management consultant with Accenture, and is now one of the leading experts on location independence, having founded Location Independent - which we consider to be the ultimate resource to living and working from anywhere.
She has been featured in Forbes magazine's Thirty Women Entpreneurs to Follow on Twitter, her projects have been featured in the BBC, the Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald, and the Huffington Post, amongst other international media outlets, and you can read her Hero profile here and check out her website here.
Matt heads up General Assembly in London. General Assembly is a global network of campuses for technology, business, and design. General Assembly provides classes, events and courses that educate people in becoming more familiar with the digital space. Topics range from software development and fundraising, there is also a front-end web development course.
If you're looking for practical ways to digitally up-skill yourself, Matt can point you in the right direction.
This is your chance to ask them all you've ever wanted to know about achieving location independence. The focus will be on sharing relevant, insightful, practical tips for Escaping the City.
5 reasons you should come:
- You want to build a life where you can work from anywhere.
- You're aware that you need to up-skill yourself digitally, but you're not sure where to start.
- You want to learn more about the logistics of buildling a location independent lifestyle.
- You're not sure what you can do right now, from where you are, to make the changes you're craving.
- You want to 'escape the city' - but you have a partner, and want to make them part of your escape.
Send me your questions (email@example.com) and we can make sure they're covered on the evening.
We will be meeting at Adam Street Members Club – on the evening of 14th August.
The bar will open at 19.00 and the talk will start at 19.30 and go on for about an hour. Please come early to join us for a drink and a chat.

When & Where
Escape the City - The Escape School
The Escape School is Escape the City's events arm.
We put on courses, events and meetups aimed at educating and empowering corporate professionals for alternative career paths, entrepreneurialism and adventure.
There is so much rubbish career and startup advice out there. So many unhelpful myths. We are building the Escape School to teach what we wish we’d learnt back in 2009 when we were stuck… sitting glumly on the Tube wondering how on earth to get out.
If Escape the City is a community that helps corporate professionals ‘do something different’ then the Escape School is where we engage closely with you (in the real world). It has been founded with one single objective: to help you grapple with that huge, scary, unmanageable yet exciting question: “What Next?"
