ACTION FOR HAPPINESS PRESENTS...

An evening with Ruby Wax

Join us for an entertaining and thought-provoking evening as comedian and broadcaster Ruby Wax gives us an exclusive preview of her new show about how learning to be "mindful" can help us cope better with the pressures of modern life.

In her own unique style, Ruby will share what she's learnt about why people "burn out", how this relates to the inner workings of the human brain, and how learning a skill like mindfulness can help us cope better with life's ups and downs.

Ruby's new show is due to go on tour soon, but this is a special chance to experience it for the very first time as a 'work in progress' - and to take part in an audience discussion with Ruby afterwards.

About Ruby Wax

Ruby Wax is one of Britain’s best-loved comedians, writers, and mental health campaigners and has spent three decades working on stage, television and radio.

Ruby has done a huge amount to raise awareness of mental illness and help end the stigma associated with depression. She has spoken openly about her own battles with depression and is an ambassador for the Time to Change campaign.

In 2011 Ruby took to the stage with friend Judith Owen for a show called Losing It - a hilarious, irreverent and honest account of her battle to overcome bipolar disorder.

The Losing It shows ended in Q&A sessions where Ruby was surprised to find audience members opening up about their own experiences of depression. She realised that people needed a forum where they could talk openly and share their experiences. So in 2012 Ruby launched Black Dog Tribe, a social network where people suffering from mental health issues can connect together and find support.

Ruby has also completed an MSc in Psychotherapy and a course in Neuroscience at UCL, and now runs workshops for business leaders helping them to find a deeper and more direct level of communication with their clients and colleagues. She has also been studying and practicing mindfulness and is a big believer in its benefits.

Location and Timings

This event will take place at Conway Hall in central London on Wednesday 15 August 2012. Doors will open at 18:45 and the event will start at 19:00.

Tickets

This event is raising funds to support the work of Action for Happiness. We want to make it accessible to as many people as possible, so rather than charging a fixed fee we're instead asking you to make a donation. It would be great if you could donate £15, but if you can spare more, or feel unable to give that much, then please give what you feel is appropriate.

All funds raised (beyond the costs of putting on the event) will contribute directly to Action for Happiness' work relating to growing the movement, enabling local action groups and supporting activities relating to happiness and well-being in schools. Action for Happiness is part of the Young Foundation, which is a Registered Charity (274345) in England and Wales.

Any questions about the event please contact events@actionforhappiness.org.

We look forward to seeing you there!
