Happiness and Generosity

ACTION FOR HAPPINESS PRESENTS...
Happiness: Be the change with Nipun Mehta
Join us for an inspiring evening with Nipun Mehta, whose award-winng work to encourage everyday generosity has touched millions of lives around the world.
Flying in the face of conventional economic theory, which assumes people only want to maximise their self interest, Nipun and his team create inspiring projects which assume that people want to behave selflessly. Their work encourages all of us to stop asking "what can I get?" and start asking instead "what can I contribute?".
Nipun will share stories of how humble experiments in everyday generosity have gone on to create significant ripples of change around the world. Like Karma Kitchen, the restaurant with no prices on the menu, where your bill has already been paid by a previous diner and you can choose if you want to donate towards future meals!
He'll also explain how being generous can unlock a profound inner transformation in each of us - or as Nipun likes to say: "being the change, changes the being". It turns out that generosity may just be the perfect prescription not just for stronger communities but for happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives for all of us.
About Nipun Mehta
At the age of 25, Nipun quit his job to become a "full time volunteer." He is the founder of ServiceSpace, an all volunteer-run organisation using technology to inspire greater volunteerism. What started as an experiment with friends is now a global ecosystem of over 350,000 members that has delivered millions of dollars in service for free. Their projects include DailyGood, KarmaTube, Help Others and KarmaKitchen.
Nipun has received the Jefferson Award for Public Service, the President's Volunteer Service Award and Wavy Gravy's Humanitarian award. He is routinely invited to share his message of "giftivism" with a wide range of audiences and his UPenn commencement speech was read by millions. He serves on the advisory boards of the Seva Foundation, the Dalai Lama Foundation, and Greater Good Science Center.
Location and Timings
This event will take place at Conway Hall in central London on Monday 1 October 2012. Doors will open at 18:45 and the event will start at 19:00
This event is raising funds to support the work of Action for Happiness. We want to make it accessible to as many people as possible, so rather than charging a fixed fee we're instead asking you to make a donation. It would be great if you could donate £15, but if you can spare more, or feel unable to give that much, then please give what you feel is appropriate.
All funds raised (beyond the costs of putting on the event) will contribute directly to Action for Happiness' work relating to growing the movement, enabling local action groups and supporting activities relating to happiness and well-being in schools. Action for Happiness is part of the Young Foundation, which is a Registered Charity (274345) in England and Wales.
Any questions about the event please contact email@example.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
