Slow Club with support from Furlined

Sheffield’s Slow Club and Bristol’s own Furlined are two bands united by the rare talent of being able to craft gorgeous songs that somehow turn melancholy to joy.

Slow Club

Slow Club have a reputation for playing brilliant Christmas shows. They’ve released a festive song and EP in successive years and also used to perform an annual end of year gig at London’s Union Chapel. In fact this year their London Christmas show will be at the 2500 capacity Koko – a very real indicator that this will be the last chance to see them in an intimate setting.

It was the duo’s second album Paradise that tipped their career into the steller path it’s on now. Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor deliver sweet harmonious hooks, rollacking beats and exuberant yelps and yips, all held together by some breath-taking harmonizing. Slow Club are defined by their own distinct and powerful partnership - Charles with bruised vocal, rasping guitar and disarming lightness of touch; Rebecca with her dash of Northern Soul and sharp wit, playing stand up drums. This is a show that whatever the weather is like you will be guaranteed to leave with a warm smile.

Furlined

We think Furlined are one of the jewels of the Bristol music scene. Singer songwriter, Neil Crossley echoes Lloyd Cole or Edwin Collins in his literary melancholia countered by a life affirming optimism. However, Crossley’s rich honeyed baritone is perhaps most reminiscent of Richard Hawley and perfectly highlighted by Tegan Evererett’s swooning cello.  With two highly acclaimed albums under their belt Furlined have a great catalogue of perfectly formed songs to draw from.
