Following the success of our masterclass with Eg White, London Songwriting School is hosting another unique ‘Introduction to Songwriting’ course in association with The Guardian.
Guest tutor will be 2012 Ivor Novello award-winning songwriter Justin Parker who is best known for writing the singles ‘Video Games’, 'Born to Die' and 'National Anthem' with Lana Del Rey as well as the latest single for Bats For Lashes, ‘Laura’. Justin is currently writing with artists such as Eliza Doolittle, Lissie and Ellie Goulding.
The course aims to introduce students to the benefit of collaboration and gain insight into professional methods and 'tricks of the trade' as applied by the most successful songwriters in the business.
Participants choose 2 of the following seminars - the history of the modern pop song; the art of lyric writing; an introduction to song structure (handouts for all seminars will be available). As well as these specialist seminars, throughout the weekend, participants will work closely with a team of 5 leading songwriters to explore genre, melody, phrasing, hooks and themes.
In small groups, and led by professional songwriters participants will collaborate and write an original song and will receive personal mentoring and practical guidance as well as feedback from our special guest Justin Parker.
The weekend will conclude with a Q & A discussion on songwriting and the music industry including tips on how to get your songs placed, how to publish and how to promote your songs and yourself. Following this there will be an informal networking event.
No knowledge of music production or ability to play an instrument is necessary as additional songwriter musicians will be on hand to work with the participants.
If you already have a song that you have written, you can sign up to an optional additional session on the Saturday evening (from 6pm) where you will get an hour one to one with one of our professional songwriters listening to and advising you on your own track. This is an additional cost of £50.
