OVERVIEW
Social media are at the heart of a great deal of contemporary PR.  There is a battle going on between PR professionals and marketers for control of the budgets.  Yet, too many people find the concepts unnerving.  Often it is the most junior person in a team who is most comfortable with the concepts and the language.  Clients need professionals who understand social media, but who understand strategic factors too.  The workshop covers core concepts in digital PR, and looks at the way online technologies have restructured PR so far, but goes on to examine Web 2.0 and interactive technologies such as blogs, wikis, and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

TOPICS

Features of the Internet age
The online media  (Stretched brands,  Online brands,  Joint ventures)
Online media relations
Push and pull relationships
Social media channels – Blogs, Wikis, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter
The rise of digital politics

LEARNING OUTCOMES

While there is a great deal of course content to cover, much of this will be introductory only, with tips on how to find out more.  The course will be delivered in an interactive way, with a strong focus on developing skills rather than downloading facts.
