The third in Redeye's series of photographic walks in Manchester looks at the city through Victorian eyes; with Mark Watson

In 1835 Manchester was the first and greatest industrial city in the world - a place where seemingly limitless possibilities sat side by side with squalor and poverty.

Today it requires a little knowledge and observation to understand - and photograph - Victorian aspects of Manchester. We're delighted to have Mark Watson, architectural photographer and walking encyclopaedia on Victorian Manchester, to show you the landmarks and gems of the city, and describe their place in history.

It's aimed at anyone with an interest in history and photography, amateur or professional, who finds the subject interesting and would like to explore it some more (there will not be much technical information about photography). Bring your own camera, compact or SLR, a packed lunch, some good shoes and an umbrella - the walk will go ahead even in the microscopically small chance that it's raining. We’d advise you not to bring a tripod as there might not be enough time and space to use this and you’ll end up carrying this around all day.

Meet at the Tearoom under the Tower in St Ann’s Church, St Ann’s Square, Manchester, at 10.00 for a 10.30 start on Saturday 9 October 2010. Mark will give a brief introduction to the day before the walk starts at 10:30. The walk goes on until approximately 15:00, with a short break for lunch midway.

Event Costs: £22.50 full, £12.50 concession
