BEDSCARF
BEDSCARF (Beds Senior Citizens Arts and Recreation forum) works in partnership with individuals, groups and agencies to ensure that we create an inclusive society, in which maturing individuals feel valued and are recognised for the life experiences in which they can share. We work with communities to promote a society that is caring of people, irrespective of their age, disability, sexuality, faith and ethnicity.
We particularly strive to ensure that older people are socially integrated and that they can effectively access community resources to improve their quality of life. We work with the community to organise recreational, social and leisure activities for older persons, which help to prevent their social exclusion, promote physical, psychological mental wellbeing and improve quality of life through an integrated and holistic approach.
We also promote an intergenerational perspective in all our activities and work in partnership with Happy Wanderers and Musicardo to bring the younger and older persons together; to reduce barriers on the basis of age, promote community cohesion and support multicultural interaction.
Each year BEDSCARF promotes and co-ordinates a celebration of International Older Persons Day (October 1st). This annual day was set up by a United Nations resolution in 1990 to celebrate the contribution of Older Persons in society and provide a focus for highlighting issues which affect the older generation.
