Charles Dickens Museum

The Charles Dickens Museum is based at 48 Doughty Street where Dickens lived between 1837 and 1839.  After the Dickens family moved to larger premises in Devonshire Terrace, the house remained a residential property, but was threatened with demolition in 1923, when the Dickens Fellowship acquired it. The Museum was opened in 1925 and has become the world’s finest Dickens-related collection.  The Museum is a registered charity (No. 212127) and governed by an independent Trust.
