Godwine Choir
Founded in 2014 by graduates from the University of Cambridge, the Godwine Choir has established itself as one of London's most dynamic and versatile chamber choirs.
The choir is based in St. George The Martyr, Borough, and provides sung Eucharist every fourth Sunday of the month. They give regular concerts at leading London venues and further afield. Past engagements include performances in Queens’ College Cambridge, Buckfast Abbey and the Malcolm Arnold Festival in Northampton. The musical directors are Alex Davan Wetton and Edward Hughes.
The choir has a particular interest in a capella music from the 20th and 21st centuries. They have performed works by a number of contemporary composers, such as Gabriel Jackson, Jonathan Rathbone, Stephen Caracciolo and Cecilia McDowall. They recently recorded the world premiere of Roderick Williams’ Christmas Bells for the Financial Times.
In late 2016 the choir will tour Belgium for appearances in Brussels Cathedral, St. Bavo Cathedral and St. Michiels Church, Ghent. Plans for 2017 include a recording of works by Dyson and Holst, and a recital in Lichfield Cathedral.
