More Personal Information and Bio on Judith Lowe

-       Judith is an enthusiastic and committed Alexander Technique student and for nearly 30 years has had ongoing, regular lessons. The Technique is a profound mind-body practice of self-awareness, guided by a professional teacher’s touch and example. It trains the gradual prevention and undoing of habitual responses. It allows you to move, breathe and speak with optimum mechanical efficiency and to be more poised and graceful. It is a lifetime journey of confronting reactive patterns in the psycho-physical system and learning to be more centred, aligned, relaxed and open to experience.

-       In 91/92 Judith studied with the OU on a Brain and Behaviour degree module for a year – this included a summer school at York University where she had originally been a student – where, on this programme, she even trained a ‘Skinner rat’. Judith continues to read widely in neuroscience, and applied psychology and is fascinated and pleased to see so many of the tools and approaches of NLP now being confirmed and elaborated by mainstream science.

-       One of Judith’s early loves was literature – novels, plays, poetry. For all kinds of random personal history/ social reasons she read all of Shakespeare’s plays by age 15 and memorised The Waste Land by TS Eliot.  She was in 8 student productions of Shakespeare and 4 of Becket including the notorious monologue ‘Not I’. She was active in the professional theatre for 7 years focussing on children’s and community theatre  - including work with Nottingham Playhouse and The Unicorn Theatre - mainly acting with some writing and directing.

-       Judith came across the early NLP books – Frogs into Princes, Structure of Magic, Reframing etc - while working in the 80’s at Battersea Arts Centre teaching women’s self defence classes. She was actively involved in the women’s self-defence movement and was one of the key pioneers at the ILEA for new approaches to building women’s confidence and well-being. Judith also was the studio expert in the BBC series ‘Streetwise’.  Reading these early NLP books gave a language and useful models to describe and solidify the practical frameworks she was using in personal safety and confidence training – particularly the outcome-orientated communication models and tools, reframing and anchoring. Judith did her own NLP Practitioner Training in 88/89 with UKTC and her Master Practitioner 89/90 with PACE – the original NLP Training Institute in London that later became PPD Learning. Her early teachers included David Gordon, Gene Early, Robert Dilts, John Grinder, David Gaster and Charlotte Bretto. She began training on NLP courses in 1990 and received an NLP Trainers Certificate from John Grinder in approx. 1993/4.

-       Judith is committed to positive social change for equality, justice, peace and global wellbeing. She is interested in politics and current affairs and in how people can contribute to make a difference in the world. Her views are also influenced by Buddhist and Taoist approaches to transition, wisdom and change in which meditation, mindfulness, compassion, the beauty of the natural world and human relationship and community are some of the keys to ecological action. Judith’s innovative and successful ‘Passion in Action’ project, developed and trained collaboratively with Judy DeLozier – one of the influential, core developers in the NLP field – was a way of creating a ‘home’ for people to turn their dreams for change into plans for action. It ran successfully for many years and supported community leadership and some amazing projects.
