CHAMPS Appeal is run by a small group of Volunteers. We fundraise to organise events for families living with Hirschsprung's Disease and also donate to research carried out at Liverpool University. We are a fully registered charity - number 1150443.
Sara Jones oversees the day-to-day running of the charity. Sara's own Son, Jacob was born in 2007 and was quickly diagnosed with Total Colonic Hirschsprung's Disease and other bowel abnormalities.
Jacob is the reason CHAMPS Appeal strive to support children and their families during diagnosis, surgeries and also offer post operative support.
We provide days out, activity days and parties to Hirschsprung's families FREE of charge.
We provide solace in what can be a frightening disease by peer-to-peer support in an informal environment.
Children have the opportunity to forge friendships with Children 'just like' them and the Parent's & Carers have the unique experience of chatting to others with no explanation required!
Friendships are made at CHAMPS and everyone goes home safe in the knowledge that at the end of the phone/text/e-mail there is support available from other parents!
We are supported by a board of trustees:
Sara Jones - Founder, Mother to a child with Hirschsprung's Disease
Gareth Jones - Father to a child with Hirschsprung's Disease
Roy Sharples - Treasurer
Roger Burrow - Legal and policies
We also have support of two wonder patrons:
Mr Simon Kenny - Alder Hey's Clinical Lead in minimul invasive surgery, including Hirschsprung's Disease.
Professor David Edgar - Professor of Cell Biology, researching new types of treatment for Hirschsprung's Disease
