The Koppel Project Hive
The Koppel Project (est. 2016) is an arts charity based in central London (Charity Registration Number 1171650). We aim to support early and mid-career artists by offering subsidised, central, communal studio spaces. We also run gallery and event spaces, both pop-up sites and more long-term white-wall galleries. In addition to hiring these spaces out to, we also run an in-house exhibition programme and provide funding and logistical support for the staging of exhibitions by early career artists and curators. The Koppel Project is also committed to exploring innovative education solutions, working with a number of partners from across the arts and cultural sectors to hypothesise, experiment, and hopefully help re-invent traditional systems of learning.
Our service is grounded in the brokerage of space, usefully filling abandoned buildings and putting them to use in service of the arts and local community. As such we are a nomadic organisation, moving from site to site as necessary and adapting creatively to each new set of challenges and opportunities. We have been based in buildings from Baker St to Stoke Newington, and along the way we have worked closely with organisations such as Apple, Swim XYZ, London Pride, Levis, A New Direction, The British Academy of Jewellery, London Design Festival, Arts Council England, Phaidon, Auction Collective and more. We pride ourselves on the flexibility and creativity of our team, our commitment to collaboration, and the strong community we’ve built up in our four years’ existence.
