Tis (nearly) the season to be jolly!
It’s November, which means Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s time to get ready for the festive season if you haven’t started preparing already!
Of course, many event businesses will have started planning as far back as August (or even earlier), but not everyone is able to get that far ahead of the holidays.
Whether you’re hosting the annual Christmas office party, a big client shindig or a seasonal fundraiser, here are the three key steps you need to take now to ensure you put on a winning event next month.
- Lock in the venue: Venues are always busy during the holiday season, so if you still haven’t confirmed yours, put everything down now and get it booked! Not sure where to start? Check out these 21 amazing venues across the UK to get some inspiration and see this post on picking the right venue for your event to make sure you cover off the basics.
- Be different: All successful events have a great value proposition (even free ones) that clearly articulates why people should give up their time (and often money) to attend. Make sure yours is great with this advice. If you’re lacking in inspiration this year, head over to our friends at Biz Bash who have a ton of creative ideas to make your party a standout success!
- Get invites out early: Everyone gets crazy busy in December, attending parties, client dinners and trying to sees friends and family before the big event. If you want people to attend your bash, you’ll need to ensure you get your invite in asap before their calendar is booked up! Here’s our latest guide to customising your event invites.
Themes to embrace in November
Despite the need to think about Christmas, we’re not in December yet. For those of you running events in November, here are some ideas and themes to spice up your event this month.
Bonfire night: Remember remember the 5th of November! Whatever you call it – bonfire night, fireworks night, Guy Fawkes night – it’s the annual celebration of the foiled Gunpowder Plot.
For most though, it’s a great excuse to light up some amazing fireworks and enjoy the spectacular explosions the chilly November evenings. Why not add a sparkle to your November events with a few Catherine Wheels and rockets (safety permitting, of course)?
Remembrance Day: This year it’s the centenary of the end of World War One. If your event falls on the 11th or Sunday 9th (Remembrance Sunday), don’t forget to wear your poppy and observe the 2 minutes silence at 11am to commemorate the end of the First World War and remember those who’ve lost their lives in armed conflicts.
Movember: Time to ditch the razors for another month, and encourage the top-lip caterpillar once again. Yes, it typically results in unimpressed ‘other halves’ and hilarious photos, but it’s for a serious point – to raise awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, amongst many others. Can your event show some support with a mustachio-related theme?
