In this one-day course, you’ll dive into the fundamentals of Modern Marquetry, starting with marking and measuring techniques that ensure precision. Guided by our expert instructors, you’ll learn to cut and shape materials using band saws and sanders, all under close supervision. Beginning with shapes cut from our stock of reclaimed materials, you’ll systematically bond these to a plywood base, creating a unique surface in an organic, freeform style.
After arranging and bonding your design, the surface will be leveled using the FB10 band saw and refined with a drum sander, ensuring a smooth and cohesive finish. Next, you’ll shape the final outline of your piece using a smaller band saw and perfect the surface with an orbital sander. A finish will then be applied, enhancing the colors and textures to bring your pattern to life.
Finally, if you wish to display your artwork on a wall, we’ll create a bespoke hanging bracket from reclaimed materials, complete with fixings and instructions. By the end of the day, you’ll have a striking, custom piece of Modern Marquetry to proudly showcase in your home or studio!
