The +1 healthy relationships program explores young male’s relationships and is aimed at those who are either using abusive behaviours or are considered to be at risk of doing so.
The course looks at the following topics:
· Exploring healthy and unhealthy relationships – friends, family and wider community
· Looking at how expectations and behaviours can impact these relationships
· Understanding what trust and respect mean
· Positive masculinity – male role models, who do they aspire to be
· Managing emotions – what we do with them and what happens when they go ‘wrong’.
· Communication skills such as active listening, social media, non verbal communication and empathy
· Reflections on past, present and future self
The primary aim of +1 is to increase young male’s awareness of what healthy relationships look like and supporting to improve these where needed. It will look at some of the things that make a healthy relationship and some of the things that can get in the way; as well as influences around them, and the impact this has on developing brains and relationships. This course is aimed at young males primarily in year 6 or those towards the end of year 5.
This can also be run as a 1:1 intervention technique!
