During this ten-week course, participants will use oil paints, drawing materials and inks to work directly from observation in the studio and integrating scenes and motifs from memory. Looking to artists past and present for inspiration, from Vivian Suter and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye to Pierre Bonnard and the Post-Impressionists, this course will have a strong emphasis on supporting students to find their own ways of working, incorporating personal idiosyncrasies and interests.

Tim Patrick will lead this course. Tim is an artist based in London and the South West. Having studied traditional portrait painting in Florence, Italy, Tim has subsequently attended the University of Brighton and most recently the Royal Drawing School in London. He is a frequent tutor at Draw in Brighton, and teaches at West Dean in Chichester and in a freelance capacity. He was recently awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant for emerging figurative artists, and in 2019 was featured in the RBA exhibition, Rising Stars in London. He has previously exhibited in the Threadneedle Prize for contemporary figurative art, the Jerwood Drawing prize and the Lynn Painter Stainers exhibition.
