A practical programme on cultivating a genuine sense of kindness toward ourselves for greater happiness, well-being, and resilience.

About this event

For people with anxiety and depression, a powerful training course that is both accessible and profoundly transformative.

After the course, you will have an action plan for dealing with numerous trials of everyday living, providing you with the power to grow, thrive, and embrace a challenge.

We can re-learn the essential skill of being genuinely nurturing and supportive toward ourselves.

Why use self-criticism for motivation and build self-esteem by constantly measuring ourselves against everyone else?

Learning is a lifelong journey, but as we settle into the patterns of our adult lives, the opportunities to expand our boundaries often shrink.

With our programme, a step-by-step guide, you can rekindle the power of self-kindness, with practical training for cultivating an enduring and unshakable sense of your fundamental human worthiness.

Whether you wish to reduce stress, develop healthy habits, unlock your creativity, or even deal with a serious condition such as depression, a strong sense of self-compassion is an essential ingredient for success. It is also a measurable trait. (At the beginning and the end of the course, you can test how self-compassionate you are.)

Why does it feel so natural to be compassionate and kind to those we care about―yet so hard to treat ourselves the same way?

Over the past fifteen years, an overwhelming body of research has shown self-compassion to be a master key to good psychological and physical health.

Let us explore it creatively - how can we promote our advancement? We suggest two ways: by expanding our breadth, what we do, the skills we acquire, the topics we talk about, the avenues we explore and our depth, how well we do what we do, the quality of our listening, our level of engagement with the world.

It is recommended to keep a daily journal.

Course objectives:

• Define self-compassion as a practise to increase happiness, optimism, and curiosity in our lives, while decreasing anxiety, depression, and stress. Definitions are necessary if we intend to guide a specific discussion.

• Reflect how self-compassion motivates with love―providing clear vision and nurturance needed to reach our full potential. Write your inner dialogue. Would you respond like that to a close friend when he or she is suffering? Consider rewriting this narrative example so that it is more encouraging and supportive. Keep both versions as a reminder.

• Contemplate how to turn toward our emotions with curiosity, openness, and non-judgement. Create your own menu or repertoire of useful methods, themes and motifs.

• Explore empathy, self-esteem, loving-kindness, and equanimity as related to compassion for ourselves, our loved ones, and all beings. Write four short stories on these topics. Find examples in world literature or different aspects of social life. Use expository style, explain and inform.

• Practice and utilise guided meditations and experiential exercises in mindfulness meditation, interconnectedness. Create your own guided meditation, while working with difficult emotions as a way to embrace our lives and cultivate kindness toward ourselves. Use the descriptive style. Descriptive writing aims to help you visualise, in detail, in terms of all five senses.

• Notice how actively comforting ourselves activates our physiological systems designed for soothing and safety. Write a poem every day for a week.

• Common humanity-recognizing the imperfect nature of the shared human experience. Share your thoughts in persuasive writing or argumentation, trying to influence the reader to assume your point of view.

• Mindfulness―meeting our moments of suffering from balanced awareness rather than ignoring or exaggerating our pain. Dive into a memoir-style genre.

• Why we resist self-compassion―debunking the common myth. Can you embark on your storytelling journey?

• The proven benefits of self-compassion in numerous aspects of life. Write your own manifesto.

• The essential difference between competitive self-esteem and true self-compassion. Use analogy and/or metaphors.

• The natural progression of self-compassion practice. Why not try a mind map?
