'1042 and all that': the contents and context of the Sizewell C coin hoard

In April 2023, Oxford Cotswold Archaeology discovered an 11th century coin hoard while excavating ahead of construction within the Sizewell C development footprint in Suffolk. The hoard, which had been wrapped first in textile and then enclosed in a layer of lead sheet, was micro-excavated in June 2024 and simultaneously filmed by Digging for Britain – where it made its public debut on the 7th of January 2025. This webinar takes a deep dive into the coins present within the hoard, as well as assessing their wider archaeological, historical and political contexts.
