Covid-19 has had a massive impact on our society and our way of life. Recently, the government has confirmed that face coverings can help reduce the risk of transmission and in some circumstances, such as on public transport they will be compulsory.

We have been encouraged to make our own face coverings at home so medical grade masks can be saved for frontline workers.

During this one hour workshop, Maud from Sunny Jar Eco Hub will teach you how to make a cloth pleated face mask with elastic ear loops or fabric ties, that can be made in different sizes. It includes a pocket, so you can insert additional filter material. These masks can be made from materials around your home, upcycling cotton material like old men shirts, bed linen or other clothing and reusing elastics from disposable masks or cut out ties from old t-shirts.

Materials required for making your mask during the workshop:

● 100% cotton lightweight fabric with a tight weave. You can use old men's shirts (use a sleeve for a small mask or use the back of the shirt for a larger mask), old sheets and pillow cases, any unwanted cotton clothing.

● 3mm flat elastic for ear loops or reuse the elastic of worn disposable masks. Or 4 fabric ties, you can use the same cotton fabric to make strips, use bias binding or strips of cotton jersey by upcycling old t-shirts

● Fabric scissors

● Ruler

● Pen

● 6 pins or clips

● Iron & ironing table

● Needle & thread or a sewing machine
