St Andrew’s Children’s Society is the oldest Scottish adoption agency still operating.We welcome adoption and fostering enquiries from all members of the community including single people, those who follow a faith and those who don’t and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone is treated the same.If you adopt or foster through us we will help you find the right child for you and prepare you for the child being placed with you. We are a voluntary agency and therefore not tied to any one particular area in the UK when we search for a child for you.We offer our families lifelong support once the child is placed with you and regularly run events to help our parents such as Theraplay and Coffee Mornings. We also support our families on a 1-2-1 basis. <p>We're very pleased to be holding a Virtual Adoption Information Event on Wednesday, 15 January from 6pm to 7.30pm as part of Big Adoption Day 2025. They will be happy to answer your questions.</p><h2>Who can adopt through St Andrew's Children's Society?</h2><p>We help <a href="https://sacsadopt.scot/adopt/who-can-adopt/" title="https://sacsadopt.scot/adopt/who-can-adopt/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">people</a> to adopt who live within a 60 mile radius of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Elgin. We welcome adoption enquiries from people who follow a faith, those who don't, <a href="https://sacsadopt.scot/blog/bonding-with-my-boy-one-adopters-story/" title="https://sacsadopt.scot/blog/bonding-with-my-boy-one-adopters-story/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">single</a> people, couples and members of the <a href="https://sacsadopt.scot/blog/our-adoption-journey-as-a-lgbtq-couple/" title="https://sacsadopt.scot/blog/our-adoption-journey-as-a-lgbtq-couple/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LGBTQ+</a> community.</p><h2>What is Big Adoption Day?</h2><p>On Big Adoption Day, voluntary adoption agencies across the UK will be opening their doors simultaneously to mark this very important day in the adoption calendar. It's an opportunity for potential adoptive parents to find out more about the positives of growing their families through adoption, adopters and adoptees sharing and celebrating their experiences and a moment to celebrate the benefits of working with voluntary adoption agencies through this process.</p><h2>What is a Voluntary Adoption Agency?</h2><p>Voluntary adoption agencies are independent, not for profit organisations, offering a boutique, personalised service to adopters from all backgrounds. Some (like us) have been working for over 100 years and collectively they have a wealth of experience having placed thousands of children with adoptive families, particularly older children, those in sibling groups and children from the global majority or with disabilities. Over a quarter of adopters VAAs approve are LGBTQ+ and almost a fifth are from a minority ethnic/global majority group. VAAs also have the ability to match adopters with children from across the UK.</p><p><a href="https://cvaa.org.uk/" title="https://cvaa.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">VAA</a>s also provide their families with lifelong adoption support, which is flexible and responsive to what families need, whenever they need it.</p><h2>Can't make it?</h2><p>If you would like to find out more about adopting, but can't make it to our event, please call 0131 454 3370 or email info@standrews-children.org.uk and we'll get back to you.</p>
