Event description

Description

Join an incredible team of hiking nurses to conquer Snowdon and fundraise for nursing professionals in hardship.

The #10kForNurses Snowdon Challenge, in partnership with WeNurses, is a wonderful opportunity to achieve something incredible while supporting UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants in personal crisis.

The challenge is really inclusive and very well supported by a team of professional mountaineers allowing you to enjoy the day, make new friends, team build with colleagues, and share wonderful experiences with like-minded people. We'll all come together in the evening to reflect and celebrate our achievement over some delicious food too!

We are delighted to offer a Snowdon hike on both Saturday AND Sunday so you can pick whichever day suits you best! There is also a NEW night-time hike option too!

The start and finish location for all hikes is the Padarn Hotel, Llanberis.

1. 10k to the Summit

Take on the incredible challenge of conquering Snowdon and achieve your #10kForNurses with an inspirational team. The hike begins in Llanberis and will cover 10 kilometres to the summit. You will then return down the mountain to Llanberis.

This hike is available on both Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th October and the fundraising pledge is £250.

2. Snowdon After Dark

This is the ULTIMATE night-time adventure for fundraisers seeking a truly unique challenge! This option also begins and ends in Llanberis, but will set off in the afternoon arriving at the summit in time for sunset. The return walk is then completed in the dark with the aid of torches.

This hike is available on the evening of Saturday 12th October and the fundraising pledge is £300.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is there a fundraising target?

Yes. We are asking participants in the 10k To The Summit challenge to pledge to raise £250 for Cavell Nurses' Trust, and the Snowdon After Dark challenge to pledge to raise £300. This will offer UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants in financial and personal hardship life-changing support.

You will be offered lots of friendly support and guidance from Cavell Nurses' Trust to help you achieve your fundraising target. We've got plenty of ideas and suggestions on how to ensure your fundraising is fun and successful!

2. What's included in the Snowdon Challenge?

Join the amazing Snowdon Challenge team and you'll have a wonderful experience of meeting new people and take on a fantastic challenge to raise money for nursing professionals in hardship.

You will be guided up and down Snowdon by a professional mountain guide team who will be with us every step of the way to offer expert advice, support and plenty of friendly encouragement! This will be provided by Aspire Adventure, who led our 2018 Snowdon Challenge.

Furthermore, you will be provided with a FREE #10kForNurses t-shirt and fundraising kit, light drink refreshments at the Padarn Hotel before setting off on the hike, light snacks to take on the walk, and a delicious and warming evening meal after the hike at the Padarn Hotel.

The main things NOT included are your own food and drink for the duration of the hike itself, travel to and from Llanberis from wherever you live, and accommodation.

3. What accommodation will I need to book? And where is best to stay?

If you are participating in the 10k To The Summit walk, we would recommend staying the night before and the night after your hike. The 10k To The Summit walk will leave the Padarn Hotel in Llanberis at around 10 am, and then there is food served that evening for the group so it would be advisable to relax that evening and not drive home.

The Snowdon After Dark hike will begin in the afternoon, so accommodation the night before is less important as long as you are able to make the journey to Llanberis that day in good time. Accommodation that night is strongly recommended as this group will be coming off the mountain at night time.

There are plenty of options for accommodation around Llanberis and neighbouring villages. There is a wide choice to suit a variety of budgets, from 4-star hotels, to quaint B&Bs, to self-catered cottages and some local Youth Hostels and campsites as well. We would recommend staying at, or as close to, the Padarn Hotel as you can.

4. Are children allowed to come?

Hiking up and down Snowdon is no easy feat, and as such, is probably not suitable for children. However, we will leave the final decision and ultimate responsibility in the hands of parents. Please think carefully about whether your children are fit enough to hike in mountainous terrain for around 6 hours.

5. Can I bring my dog?

Again, Snowdon is a challenging mountain to climb. The decision as to whether your dog can come or not is up to you as the owner, but please carefully consider whether your dog will be able to cope with such a long and challenging walk.

6. Is the registration fee refundable?

No, the registration fee is not refundable.
