11 Million Postcards
79% of people feel more positive after travelling in UK. 71% healthier or more replenished. (Visit Britain, May 2025).
But research by Action for Children shows that one in 12 families say that they have never been on a family holiday – and many more rarely go away or have any days out.
Family holidays - like school trips - are recuperative. Fun. They introduce people to knew experiences and cultures. They help people connect to nature and to heritage. They make memories. They strengthen family bonds.
And - like school trips - the same families don’t get to go away. While cost is a barrier it is only one blocker.
Many of us in the charity sector have been working to address this. And a consortium is growing.
What if we worked together to ensure every family in the UK has days out and holidays away? What if no kid had to go to school in September worried about how they were going to write about their summer holiday? How can we explore the different approaches we might need for children in care or for those who do not attend school?
The charity sector holds our assets in trust for the public as a whole. Our zoos and our castles. Our wetlands and our wild places. Our museums. Out hostels and our holiday cottages.
So don’t we have a special place in ensuring all 11 Million school aged children can ‘Send a Postcard’ in 2026.
Join the biggest charity 'think and do' conference on family access to holidays. Input from families and school leaders. From charities already working to connect families to breaks and from vistor attractions testing new models
Wednesday 17th September at WWT London.
What if 2026 was the year every child got a holiday?

Yep. There will be a break at lunch time (come and see the otters) and a chance to visit reserve at end of the day. And attendees will get a code for a free family ticket so we can practice what we preach.
