11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA11)

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is pleased to invite registrations for the 11th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA11).
The theme for this year's event is 'Harnessing natural resources and ecosystems for adaptation'.
The CBA11 conference takes place in Kampala, Uganda from 26-29 June 2017. Field visits accompanying the conference will take place in various parts of Uganda from 22-25 June.
CBA11 aims to share and consolidate the latest developments in community-based adaptation practices, policy and theory across sectors globally. It aims to strengthen the existing network of practitioners, policymakers, planners and donors working on all levels of community-based adaptation, and enhance the capacity of practitioners, governments and donors to help improve the livelihoods of those most vulnerable to climate change.
The 2017 conference will be hosted by the Government of Uganda. It is being organised by IIED, the International Centre on Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), the Makerere University Centre for Climate Change Research and Innovations (MUCCRI) and the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment.
The CBA11 conference will include plenary and parallel interactive sessions, hands-on learning approaches, group discussions, high-level speaker panels, video competitions, poster presentations and more.

26 June – Conference day 1, including opening plenary, full day sessions, followed by welcome dinner
27 June – Conference day 2
28 June – Conference day 3
29 June – Conference day 4 (half day), including final plenary sessions, reflections and closing debate
We advise that you arrive on and before 25 June.
Optional CBA11 field visits will take place over three days ahead of the CBA11 conference. Participants will visit CBA projects in different ecosystems across Uganda, and will return shortly before the formal conference opens.

Choosing your field visit
Full details of the field site options will follow in May. Once registered, you will be asked to give details of your top three preferences and we will do our best to ensure you are allocated to your preferred field visit, although we cannot guarantee it. Field sites will be within 1-4 hours drive of the city of Kampala.
Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend that you book as soon as possible. Full venue and accommodation information will follow once your registration is confirmed.
Conference-only tickets £775 (available until 31 May)
Conference and field visits £1,150 (available until 14 May)
Your conference ticket includes:
• Registration for the 3.5-day conference
• Lunch and refreshments throughout the conference
• Conference opening dinner, and
• CBA11 conference pack.
Excludes: travel, accommodation, visa, and travel insurance.

• Accommodation and field briefing dinner in Kampala on 22 June
• Travel to the field visit sites
• Accommodation and meals on site on 23 and 24 June

Registrations for the field visits opened in March. Field visit registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and you can ensure you receive the latest updates by signing up to alerts about CBA11.
How to register
To register for CBA11, click on the green 'Tickets' button above.
Spaces fill up quickly, so we encourage you to register early in order to secure your place. You will also be asked if you are interested being a discussant at the conference, or in presenting your work through oral, poster or film presentations.
Unfortunately we do not have funding available to sponsor participants for this event.

Travel and accommodation
You are responsible for arranging your own travel, accommodation, visa and travel insurance. Once registered you will receive information on the venue and nearby hotels.
Most visitors to the Republic of Uganda will need to obtain a visa before they arrive at their port of entry (such as the airport). For a list of fees and visa-exempt nationalities, visit www.immigration.go.ug/content/visas-and-passes.
The Republic of Uganda has recently introduced an e-visa application system, and you are advised to apply online for an e-visa as far in advance as possible at www.immigration.go.ug. All travellers to the Republic of Uganda MUST have a valid yellow fever immunisation card to show at the point of entry.

Registration and payment methods
Payments can be made by Mastercard, Visa, Visa Debit and American Express credit cards. Please have your card details ready when registering, as well as your passport information.

After you have completed the registration and payment process, you will will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite. Please keep this confirmation email for future reference.
Refund and cancellation policy
You will be eligible for a ticket refund if you notify the organisers before 22 May, 2017. The level of refund you will receive depends on the date of notice. If you are eligible for a refund the funds will be processed five days after the event has ended. You will receive:
- 90% refund if cancelled before 13 March, 2017 (10 per cent admin charge)
- 50% refund if cancelled between 13 March and 22 May, 2017
- No refund if cancelled after 22 May 2017.
The notification of cancellation should be made in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- All participants are responsible for securing their own travel insurance. Field visit participants may spend a lot of the day walking in hot temperatures. By registering for field visits, the participant confirms that his/her health is adequate.
- IIED reserves the right to postpone or cancel the conference or transfer it to another site if unforeseen circumstances warrant such action.
- In the event that the conference or field visit cannot be held or is postponed due to events beyond the control of the organisers, or due to events which are not attributable to wrongful intent or gross negligence of the organisers, IIED cannot be held liable by delegates for any damages, costs or losses incurred, such as travel, accommodation, insurance, visa applications and other related costs. Under these circumstances IIED reserves the right to retain the ticket fee of the participant.
- The event will be photographed and/or videotaped on behalf of the organisers for display, distribution and broadcast, including on television and via the worldwide web. By attending or participating in this event you agree to give your consent to be photographed and/or videotaped, and waive any claims regarding the use of your image or contribution.
