12 Days of Twitter
Sunday, 1 February 2015 at 08:00 - Thursday, 12 February 2015 at 09:00 (GMT)
12 Days of Twitter is a convenient and free way to learn to tweet on Twitter itself.
Our friendly team - including people who learnt Twitter on 12 Days of Twitter themselves - will teach you how to reap the rewards whilst avoiding the risks of social media. It will take just half an hour a day over 12 days, with live support, online chat and guidance throughout - although you may want to spend more time to get the full benefit for a current project or cause.
You’ll learn the mechanics of Twitter itself, as well as the tools, techniques and tactics to get it working for you and your goals - whether you're in business, using social media to learn or to teach, or trying to change the world with a hashtag.
This Twitter training takes place on Twitter, so you can't help but learn as you go along: accessing the course notes and tools, following and being followed by other delegates, receiving feedback and support as you go. Later on in the course you'll join a special interest group by geography and/or industry, so that charities, researchers, business owners, etc can work more closely together to build a peer network as the foundations for your future success.
The course will work well for you if you're in the UK, (and perhaps especially Yorkshire) if you are elsewhere you are welcome to join in, but we may not be able to put you in to such a relevant local cohort.
The course leader @lizcable is Senior Lecturer in Social Media at Leeds Trinity University and has been teaching and consulting on social media for years, helping thousands of individuals, businesses and organisations get started and make the most of this social network and personal learning tool.
Long before the days of massive open online courses (MOOCs) Liz ran the world's first TWOOC. Here it is again, fully up to date, and running over 12 consecutive days as originally designed. Intensive, fun, and real. You won't be doing "exercises" on the course, you'll be using Twitter to meet your own needs and goals.
You'll be supported from 8am to 8pm on Twitter by Liz, her team of #12DoTVets (12 Days of Twitter veterans) and her students on placement at Trinity Vision - part of Leeds Trinity University.
As part of her research, Liz will be looking in particular at how to keep learners engaged and motivated on a course of this nature, and how collaborating around special interest topics raises achievement, and makes the content more relevant for future learners.
As part of the project we will ask your permission to use your anonymised data, as well as perhaps screenshots of your public conversations on Twitter as part of our research. We will ensure you have full information regarding this before the course starts. Previous participants have found their screenshots in our publicity to have been useful in their own marketing, so it's nothing to be worried about. We won't publish anything with your image, name, or words on without your express permission.
Sign up here for more information in the New Year, and mark those 12 Days of Twitter in your calendar!
