This session is aimed at introducing the basics of studio recording, as well as the particular set up of the Garage Recording Studio. It is suitable for both complete beginners and those who was a refresher. This is run by Steve Burton, the Vanbrugh Rock Tutor. Please note, you do need to be a member of the University of York and signed up to the College Music Scheme to participate.

Once you have done this session you can move onto one of the practical sessions with an aim to getting signed off so that you can hire the recording studio and produce your own recorded music.

Payment Requirements:

Attendees are asked to purchase the full course cost which is £20 for Garage Members and £30 for non-Garage Members, entitling you to attend this session, one or more practice sessions, and a sign-off session. As there are limited spaces on this course cancellation must be at least 5 working days before the session to entitle you to a full refund. If you cannot attend it is important to email college-music-scheme@york.ac.uk as soon as possible so that we can try to find a replacement. If we are successful then you could still be entitled to a refund.

Please note: this course is NOT run in association with the Department of Music and is not part of any degree course. There are no credits associated with this.

Where and When: The course is run at The Garage, which is at The Warren, just across the road from the Information Centre on Market Square. Please arrive a few minutes early at The Warren and help yourself to hot drinks and snacks while you wait for the course to start. Complimentary drinks and biscuits are available throughout the course.
