Lockdown Jazz Sessions #14
Event Information
About this Event
Lockdown Jazz Sessions are fortnightly gigs performed by musicians from their own homes. Using zoom, the audience has the chance to be present and together at the online gig, even unmuting themselves to applaud.
First Set: Bruno Heinen
Dr. Bruno Heinen is a London based contemporary improvising pianist, composer and educator.
Bruno has worked with artists such as Shabaka Hutchings, Julian Siegel, Jean Toussaint, Julian Arguelles, Denys Baptiste, Reem Kelani, Pete Saberton, Steve Watts, Jason Brown and Emilia Martensson amongst others.
He was taught by the late John Taylor and Pete Saberton, and has just completed an AHRC-funded practice-based PhD at the RNCM with the title 'Counterpoint in jazz piano with specific relation to the solo work of Fred Hersch'.
As part of his research, he received funding to travel to NYC to interview and work with Hersch in 2016.
Second Set: Ivo Neame & Julian Siegel
Ivo is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger. In addition to leading his own bands, he is a vital cog in several of European jazz’s most forward-looking groups including Phronesis and the Marius Neset Quintet. His fifth album under his own name “Moksha”, released on Edition Records in 2018, has received rave reviews and earlier this year he released the album “Multiverse” as a duo with yet another SoundCellar favourite, percussionist and vibes player Jim Hart, again on Edition Records.
