This course is a one day attended course between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
This training is suitable for anyone who is required to complete risk assessments in their work environment or for their work activities. The person who carries out the risk assessment is named 'the competent person' and this can be anyone within the organisation who has sufficient training, skills, experience and knowledge to carry out the risk assessment process.
Please note that as a General Risk Assessor you may be required to undertake risk assessments for other Teams/Services.
Attending delegates will require to:
- have line manager approval to attend course
- prior to attending delegates will require to read the risk assessment guidance document and responsibilities of the risk assessor contained within Health and Safety Policy. This can be found here Health & Safety Policy, Arrangements & Guidance
- have access to a work laptop and the PKC network ie PKC employee login, PKC email address and access to Eric (not applicable for external candidates)
- where possible, bring a work laptop to the course to enable full participation in the practical element
- following the course, have access to a work laptop and the PKC network to allow completion of the practical assignment and submission to the Health and Safety Team for assessment
The course will cover the following learning outcomes:
- understand why a risk assessment is essential to improve health and safety
- understand injuries and ill-health that occur due to failing to manage health and safety
- be aware of legal responsibilities placed on employers and employees when completing risk assessments
- understand each of the five key steps of the risk assessment process
- feel confident carrying out risk assessments of their workplace and work activities

Tea and coffee will be provided but please bring your own mug to help towards our sustainability goals. There are a number of shops close by where a variety of food and beverages can be purchased.
It is our policy to issue certificates only on request and if needed. We will hold a record of your attendance and certificate number. You will receive an email with course result and that will be your evidence of attendance and successful completion.

Yes, you can. Please go to the confirmation email you will have received on booking the course. In this email scroll down and you will see an orange button with words get my tickets. Click on this. You will be given the option to download tickets or cancel order. Select cancel order.
If you do not attend your booked training course and give no notice of your non-attendance, a charge of £50 will be made to your team. If you provide 24 hours' notice or in the case of sickness or unforeseen circumstances provide notification on the morning of the training a charge will not be made.
This course requires a minimum number of attendees to proceed. If uptake is low, the course may be cancelled and alternative arrangements offered where possible.
