Training: Legal Protections for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence


This training is aimed at those supporting victims/survivors.

The training will introduce participants to different types of civil legal protections available to women experiencing gender-based violence and abuse in Scotland. The training is aimed at those supporting victims/survivors. The training will including the practical process of securing a protective order and the evidence required to do so. The specific protective orders covered in this training are Interdicts, Exclusion Orders and Non-Harassment Orders. The session will cover brief descriptions of Forced Marriage Protection Orders and Female Genital Mutilation Protective Orders.


Who can attend?

This training is designed for organisations and agencies who would like to learn about the different legal protections available for women who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV). An understanding of GBV is helpful but not necessary and you do not need to be working directly with survivors to attend.

This training is open to all but has been designed with the following in mind:

• Mental Health Charities

• Workers Supporting Women

• Nurses

• Health Sector Workers

Learning objectives

This session will equip attendees with a basic understanding of protective orders and the ability to confidently support and provide information to survivors so they can make informed choices when obtaining their own legal representation. Please note that it is not intended to provide information on conducting legal cases.In this session, participants will:

- Learn about the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre and Just Right Scotland and what we offer to women survivors of Gender-Based Violence

- Gain an understanding of the different protective orders available to women survivors of gender-based violence

- Explore how these issues arise in practice

The session will be facilitated by Reegan Bonar, Justice Training Worker for Scottish Women’s Rights Centre & Rape Crisis Scotland & a member of the legal team at Just Right Scotland.

Cancellations and refunds

Refunds are available for those who give 48 hours notice by email (to eventbrite@scottishwomensrigtscentre.org.uk) that they are unable to attend. You can request your ticket to be transferred to another member of your organisation within 48 hours on one occasion.

Any use of AI software in SWRC trainings is strictly prohibited. Any use of AI or non-permitted recording software or devices will result in the immediate removal from the training.

If you use accessible devices or software with recording functions, you need to discuss this with our Justice Training Worker 5 working days before your training date.

This allows facilitators to make necessary adjustments and accommodations for that session.

Only specialist software registered to that individual can be used in SWRC training sessions such as software supplied by Access to Work or other accessibility schemes.
