About this event

The Downs Light Railway Trust offers structured learning courses to learn how to operate locomotives. Pupils are taken through the theory and practical exercises, while building up their experience and skills. On completion of their training, pupils are awarded basic and full passes to operate the locomotives.

This course is for steam locomotives. Pupils must satisfy the following before being eligible for signing up to this course:

  1. Must have already been enrolled on the Downs Light Railway
  2. Must be over 7+ years (under 16s with parental consent)

Course session is limited to two pupils per session.

Pupils with an active annual membership to the Downs Light Railway may use their membership code to get a discounted rate for this course.

Course is subject to COVID-19 restrictions and serviceability of the locomotives used for training.
