What’s my Arts & Humanities PhD worth? Making sense of your skills for the job market

Are you a postgraduate researcher at Leeds, Sheffield, or York working in the Arts and Humanities? Wondering how to showcase your skills to future employers?

Your PhD equips you with a wide range of valuable skills and deep subject expertise. These are highly sought after across many sectors, but when you're immersed in research or writing up your thesis, it can be hard to step back and clearly communicate what you bring to the table. This interactive workshop will help you:

  • Reflect on the skills and strengths you’re developing through your PhD
  • Translate your academic experience into language employers understand
  • Communicate your value confidently in applications and interviews
  • Understand what employers are really looking for—and how you meet those needs.

Led by Jo Cross (Training Lead at WRoCAH) and Leoni Taylor (Tutor HR Manager at The Brilliant Club), this session draws on their extensive experience supporting researchers in making successful career transitions.

What to bring:

Come with a few ideas about your career interests and what you’ve gained from your PhD so far. Be ready to take part in practical activities designed to help you stand out in the post-PhD job market.

Travel costs:

Travel costs for both the Careers fair and the A&H Workshop will be reimbursed to University of York and University of Sheffield delegates.
