About this event

This six-week course is suitable for teachers of Primary who are delivering Gaelic as an L2 or L3 and have no or very little or rusty Gaelic.

This course is complemented by a series of Northern Alliance Gaelic training videos so that participants can practice after sessions at their own pace and will give practical advice and examples of how Gaelic can be embedded across the school and into daily routines or used as an L3.

The course will be delivered using Microsoft Teams in Glow

Course content can be found below:

Session 1:

  • Pedagogy - Support Materials
  • Gaelic PLL - Greetings and Intros
  • Grammar - Formal and Informal

Have a brief look through the resources required for delivering Gaelic as L2 or L3. Look at vocabulary needed when meeting and greeting people and how and when to use formal and informal cases.

Session 2:

  • Pedagogy – Daily Routines Overview
  • Gaelic PLL – Feelings and Days
  • Grammar – Present tense and Pronouns

Look at the ways in which Gaelic can be integrated in class. Go through the core language for saying how you feel and the days of the week. Focus on the present tense for saying how you feel.

Session 3:

  • Pedagogy – Classroom Language
  • Gaelic PLL – Commands / Instructions
  • Grammar – Addressing person/group

Intro to phrases that are useful in class and how you can turn your class into more of Gaelic environment. Recap on the grammar points from Wk1 and Wk2.

Session 4:

  • Pedagogy – Introducing Core Language
  • Gaelic PLL – Colours and Numbers
  • Grammar – Qs on colours and numbers

Look at a variety of ways to introduce core language to the class. Focus on the common colours and numbers from 1-20 in this session and the various questions that can be used with these topics.

Session 5:

  • Pedagogy – Using Songs
  • Gaelic PLL – Weather / more Numbers
  • Grammar – Past tense

How we use songs to teach vocabulary and structures. Take a look at the more common weather types and look at numbers from 20 upwards. Use weather to help learn the past tense,

Session 6:

  • Pedagogy – Using Stories and Poems
  • Gaelic PLL – My Family
  • Grammar – Saying I have....

Introducing vocabulary through books and poems. Look at family members and how to say who is in our family. This focuses on the “I have...” structure.
