Welcome to the Family Matters Autism and Girls workshop.
This online workshop on Autism and Girls will be delivered by Autism speaker, trainer and consultant Amanda Hinds.
This session will explore how autistic girls can present differently to boys, difficulties they may experience, and what they need to be understood and supported well.
It will cover:
-Diagnosis issues
-Impact of ethnicity
-Education / school experiences
-Masking
-Teenage girls
-Friendships and relationships
-Anxiety and tricky emotions
-Sensory differences
-How to support autistic girls well
Amanda has a unique perspective of autism as she is late-diagnosed autistic, her children (young adults) are autistic, she specialises in teaching autistic children, and she is an autism researcher. She is a highly experienced teacher; having taught in mainstream primary and secondary schools and specialist provisions for almost 20 years. She is also a qualified SENCo.
Amanda is particularly interested in the experiences of autistic women and girls, especially those who received a late diagnosis.
About the Ruils Family Matters service
Family Matters is a service for parents in Richmond and Hounslow that provides practical support, advice and information to families with Disabled children and/or young people with additional needs. We will help you navigate difficult circumstances and support you to come up with solutions through:
- 1-2-1 meetings with an advisor who will listen to and work with you to address your needs
- Information on activities, services & behaviour strategies
- Online and in-person workshops on common issues/topics
