‘Memory (the deliberate act of remembering) is a form of willed creation’ - Toni morrison
A collaborative making session exploring memory and archiving by connecting with nature through touch. This space is for remembering things we didn’t know we had forgotten.
This activity draws on Toni Morrison’s idea of rememory - “The spontaneous recollection of memories that have remained repressed often triggered by specific stimuli” - as a tool to explore how we can re-engage with ancestral crafting techniques and utilising the sense of touch to prompt this reconnection.
How does the written archive as we know it shape what stories are forgotten? What tangible ancestral tools can we be inspired by to map histories violated and preserve cultural memory?
These questions and more will be discussed as we walk through nature, collecting These questions and more will be discussed as we walk through nature, collecting rubbings of foraged materials.
