  • Learn how to address common misconceptions about cancer and build confidence in discussing the subject with clients.
  • Develop effective language patterns and approaches to support clients affected by cancer, either personally or in a caregiving capacity.
  • Understand the psychological and emotional challenges faced by cancer patients and their families and how hypnotherapy can play a vital role in their resilience and well-being.
  • Explore practical applications of hypnotherapy as a resource for managing treatment side effects, reducing stress, and enhancing relaxation and self-soothing techniques.
  • Apply solution-focused hypnotherapy techniques to support clients in managing emetophobia, including the anticipatory anxiety often linked to it. This includes helping clients identify and build on existing coping strategies, develop future-focused goals, and use positive imagery and relaxation methods to reduce fear responses around vomiting and situations where nausea is anticipated.

  • Practical Skills: Hands-on practice in developing your own language patterns and scripts, building confidence in tailoring your hypnotherapy approach to meet individual client needs.
  • Enhanced Confidence: Strategies for addressing the emotional and psychological impact of cancer, enabling you to support clients with resilience-building and self-soothing techniques.
  • Peer Sharing: An opportunity to learn from real-life experiences shared by both Beverley and fellow participants, gaining diverse perspectives and valuable insights.
  • Professional Growth: Tools and techniques to expand your practice and support clients touched by cancer in a meaningful and impactful way.

Feedback from recent delegates:

* Beverley's experience and expertise really shone through and her delivery of the training was sensitive and well paced. The course dispelled many of the common misconceptions around cancer and provided valuable information and insight for therapists supporting clients affected by this, either personally or in a caring capacity for a loved one. Gina Brown

*Beverly's insight and sharing her experiences of caring for patients with Cancer was so impactful and valuable. Loved having the opportunity to start my own language pattern during the CPD. I would love to do further CPD's with you. Reasonable price was appreciated and enjoyed just being a half-day training. Nicola Wakefield

* The CPD was really thought provoking allowing us to build knowledge in terms of what causes cancer, the different types of treatement and the negative and positives of living with and beyond cancer. It was also really useful to get some insights into the patient experience articulated by Beverley but also shared via the course attendees. I particularly found the 5 minutes allocated to script writing was really good, as in training we are given scripts so something that may have seen daunting before, know seems more manageable. Vicky Roughly

According to recent statistics from Cancer Research UK, 1 in 3 of us will have a cancer in our lifetime in the UK. More people are being diagnosed, and as more treatments emerge, more people are being treated and so more people are living with and beyond cancer. Viewed in this way, just think about the number of clients in your practice who you may encounter who have been touched, or will be touched by cancer.

This session will be led by Beverley Longhurst, who has over a decade in the oncology field as a clinical nurse specialist, and has written about breast cancer and it's treatments and the application of hypnotherapy and yoga in the oncology setting. She has used clinical hypnotherapy as a resource for countless oncology patients and carers as a way of building resilience, transforming confidence and learning an effective self soothing technique for relaxation and as an additional resource for side effect management.
