Event planning using Martyn's Law (The Protection of Premises Act 2025)
Overview
To build on the work of The Active Best Practice Network podcast series, we are planning a trio of free webinars, taking place in September December and February 2026. In these webinars we will be inviting local experts to share some best practice guidance, tips and resources with a short Q&A for attendees. These are aimed at sport and physical activity groups, the community or VCSE sector, plus anyone within the Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire network who could benefit.
Hosted by Natalie Smith and presented by Duncan Sutcliffe from Sutcliffe and Co and Kevin Purcell of United Outcomes.
The webinar will provide a brief overview, including updates since Martyn's Law, also known as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, which gained Royal Ascent in April 2025.
Presenters, Duncan Sutcliffe and Kevin Purcell will discuss areas for consideration to meet the requirements, designed to strengthen the security of public premises and events in the UK.
Exploration of events tiers and thresholds included in the act, to assist with planning for events scheduled from April 2027.
- Introduction to the Act
- key considerations with references to best practice tips, and key takeaways, plus follow-up resources to support attendees
- Q&A's at the end.
This webinar is aimed to support those who run events from qualifying premises.Under Martyn's Law, qualifying premises consist of a building, or a building with associated land, where it is reasonably expected that at least 200 people will be present at the same time, from time to time. Under the legislation there are enhanced requirements for events with over 800 people likely to be in attendance at the same time.
Within this webinar, qualifying premises, legal duty requirements, risk assessments, reasonable measures and follow up support will be explored.
This is part 3 of a trio of webinars sharing best practice, tips and resources, on the topics of Data Protection Refresher (9th September 2025), An Introduction to Implementing AI (8th December 2025).
Bookings will be available through Eventbrite and each webinar will be advertised on the Active Herefordshire and Worcestershire events page.
Once you have booked a ticket to this webinar, you will be sent the MS Teams link via the Eventbrite reminder emails.
Please note, if demand exceeds places, people operating out of Herefordshire and Worcester will be prioritised.
We may not have time to answer all of the questions within the session, but will signpost to support.
