Description

15th International Conference in Armenia on Ophthalmology and Neonatology will be a truly international congress that will gather prominent experts in various fields of ophthalmology and neonatology from different countries. The participants are professionals from the United States, Europe, CIS countries, Caucasus, Central Asia and Middle East. Staff from the world renowned hospitals and universities such as Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of California, Irvine (UCI) will make presentations and be available for interaction. We would like to share our knowledge in various areas as well learn from advances in other countries.

The Armenian EyeCare Project (hereafter AECP) together with the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (USA), Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and Moorfields Eye Hospital (UK), Eye Samaritans International (USA), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Armenian Association of Neonatal Medicine and Armenian Association of Ophthalmologists, have put together a very interesting agenda for general ophthalmologists, pediatric ophthalmologists (with an interest in retinopathy of prematurity), neonatologists and neonatal nurses. This international conference is designed as a combination of plenary and breakout sessions and will be a very impressive platform to share the knowledge and experience in various areas, present advances and innovative approaches for the improvement of healthcare.

Plenary sessions will be dedicated to global challenges and needs of the ophthalmology, present the work of the Armenian EyeCare Project and its partners for the past 25 years, discuss telemedicine and the unique opportunities it opens for the world.

There will be sessions on Retina, Glaucoma, Cataract-Keratoplastics, Neuro-orbital, Retinopathy of Prematurity and Refractive Surgery. Talks will encompass the best practices in a specific area from various countries, panel discussions and Question-and-Answer sessions.

Breakout sessions on ROP will reflect on the global ROP epidemics, differences in ROP between the developed and the developing worlds and discuss prevention and treatment of ROP. The breakout session for neonatology and neonatal nurses, among many topics will focus on oxygen use, septic shock and arterial hypotension, transport, metabolic errors, nurse online training.

The conference will be concluded by hands-on training in RetCam use, simulation exercises along with visits to the AECP Center of Excellence for the Prevention of Childhood Blindness as well as Regional Eye Centers.

Apart from sub-specialty professional ophthalmologists, neonatologists, and NICU nurses, this conference will be of interest for eyecare managers, health policy designers.

A group of reviewers will select the abstracts for the inclusion in the conference publication. Details on the format of the abstract will follow.
