Event description

Description

The 16 days of action against gender-based violence is screening the drama/documentary 'Pink Saris'. In this film, internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto gives us an unflinching and often amusing look at the all-women vigilante Gulabi Gang in Northern India and their charismatic leader, who acts as judge and jury for girls and women being abused by outlawed patriarchal traditions and the caste system.

We will also be holding a panel discussion following the film. In this we will be discussing the themes in the movie and violence against women. The audience will be encouraged to ask questions of and interact with the panel speakers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are the Edinburgh chapter of the United Nation's annual 16 days of action against gender-based violence (November 25 - December 10). But more than that, this is where women from around the world share their experiences, opinions, talent, and knowledge.

Importantly, not only women's voices will be featured. Also spotlighted are the voices of men and organisations that ally with women in the fight against gender inequality and gender-based violence.

To learn more about and engage with these women and allies, please explore our website at http://16days.org.uk/
