Join expert Yorkshire naturalist, Derek Whiteley, and sharpen your soldierfly identification skills. Learn the distinguishing features of this group of flies and how to identify them to species level using Derek's own collection of soldierflies. No experience or equipment needed!

This is a joint workshop with Yorkshire Naturalists Union and Sorby Natural History Society.

Embrace your wild side - what to expect:

Accessibility and terrain

Much of Potteric Carr is accessible for standard wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are other paths that are more rugged that go round the Discovery Zone and Beeston Plantation.

What to bring/wear

This event takes place outside so brace yourself for the Yorkshire weather! Sturdy footwear is always recommended.

Waterproof clothing/insect repellent (weather dependent), torch (night events), binoculars.

Toilets and catering

Facilities on site include toilets (including accessible toilet and baby changing facilities) and a gift shop and café in the visitor centre.

Meet at the entrance to the nature reserve.
