Meetings of the Bookworm Club take place monthly, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month when a member of the Group introduces the work of a photographer of their choice.
For the October meeting, Maria Oldland will introduce the work of Eve Arnold.
She was a pioneer American photojournalist and the first female to join ‘The Guardian’ and the ‘Magnum Photo Agency’. She is celebrated for her memorable and sensitive portraits of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. Endowed with a distinctive understanding and compassion towards her subjects, she documented not only celebrities, but also the social challenges, poverty and deprivation of her time, leaving an enduring legacy of a prolific career lasting over 50 years.
Maria will talk particularly about the book Eve Arnold: In Retrospect by Eve Arnold.
Two other books are recommended: All about Eve – the Photography of Eve Arnold, by Eve Arnold and Eve Arnold:Magnum Legacy by Janine di Giovanni.
