Event description
How will Scotland's move to a net-zero and globally competitive and sustainable economy affect you?

About this event

Terminology like ‘a green recovery’ where ‘no-one is left behind’ and ‘doughnut economies’ is commonplace.

But exactly what is a ‘just transition’ and how will it affect each of us – from how where we work, how much we earn, to where we holiday and what we consume?

Join the discussion on how Scotland’s move to a net zero and globally competitive and sustainable economy will affect you. And how do we avoid a repeat of 1980s mass unemployment when market forces and a transition to de-industrialisation destroyed so many communities?

Chair: Claire Baker MSP, Economy and Fair Work Committee

Panellists:

Dr Poonam Malik, University of the Highlands and Islands

Professor Jim Skea, Co-chair of working group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Chair of Just Transition Commission, Scotoland

Councillor Angus Millar, Chair of Environment, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction Committee, Glasgow City Council

This is the 17th year that the Scottish Parliament has hosted The Festival of Politics.

Taking place over five days, our free online panel sessions allow you to have your say and debate if the world has gone past its tipping point or if it can be saved through science, technology and innovative action. Themed around the United Nations’ Sustainable Goals, we will also explore the impact of climate on other issues such as poverty and inequality.

Book your free tickets now and find out more about Scotland’s place in tackling the world’s climate crisis as it prepares to host global leaders for the COP26 conference.
