Autism Education Trust (AET) - Good Autism Practice in the Early Years
Overview
This module focuses on the importnace of getting to know a child and how their autism affects them. We look at examples of distressed behaviours and how these can be supported through a range of strategies, approaches and reasonable adjustments.
The module guides delegates through how to gather information about an autistic child's interests, aspirations, strengths and differences and how this is information can be used when developing a Child-Centred Education Plan (CCEP).
We also introduce the AET Early Years Competency Framework so that delegates can develop and evaluate their good autism practice following completion of the module.
This course is run over three evening sessions (6pm to 8pm) and all three session must be attended:
- Thursday 23rd April 2026
- Thursday 7th May 2026
- Thursday 21st May 2026
It is recommended that all practitioners from a setting attend and to support with this EY AET GAP training is being delivered as pre-paid through the DfE Change Programme for this year only. Further training will be delivered in varies locations across the county during this academic year.
This training will help you:
- Develop knowldge and understanding of good autsim practice.
- Understand practical strategies and approaches that support austic children.
- Develop knowledge about autism and the individual to inform Child-Centred planning.
- Involve the autistic child and their family in decisions.
- Ensure inclusive practice for all autistic children, removing barriers to learning and play.
