Event description
Hands on and interactive science & theatre project, exploring the impact of Climate Change in the New Forest, Beach and City of Southampton

About this event

A unique opportunity to work with scientists and teachers at LifeLab (University of Southampton) and local theatre company Theatre for Life to explore the impact of climate change across three different landscapes.

Open to14-21 yr olds, we are particularly keen to engage with young people with long term and mental health conditions, young carers and siblings.

On the 27th November from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm you will be learning firsthand about the science behind climate change, taking part in interactive 'Greenhouse' and Escape room activities at the University of Southampton.

Weekly sessions will run every Saturday Morning during the school term from 10.30 am - 12.30 pm. We will email a detailed timetable with the different workshops and locations for the project.

Sessions will be flexible and you are not expected to attend every weekend.

*We can provide travel bursaries upon request, for further information please email: michelle.smith@theatreforlife.co.uk

*All young people will be escorted from Southampton Central to the New Forest using public transport with team representatives.

Equipped with the science behind climate change, you will then have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and understanding in three outdoor locations:

New Forest National Park

Weston Shore beach

City of Southampton

Working with Theatre for Life and environmentalists in each location, you will work as a theatre company to devise, write and perform impactful theatre around the imminent climate crisis.

You will also have the opportunity to work with professional policy makers and local council representatives, challenging and debating policy ideas on how we can protect the planet and our local communities.

During the May Half term you will rehearse your devised plays through site specific theatre to demonstrate how communities can work together to take action and protect our planet. We will be performing the pieces on the 4th and 5th June.

We will book indoor spaces to support the outdoor exploratory work as a weather contingency and for toilet facilities / access needs.
