Orange Beak Evening with author and illustrator Mariajo Ilustrajo

Join us for an evening with award-winning author and illustrator, Mariajo.

Mariajo is a UK based Spanish author and illustrator. Her first published picture book Flooded won the Klauss Flugge Prize in 2023 and even before publication the development images for this book won New Talent, overall winner, at the World Illustration Awards 2020. In addition to this, Mariajo has won multiple awards including the UNICEF prize in France. In 2025 she was shortlisted for Illustrator of the Year by the British Book Awards.

Intrigued by other cultures and landscapes Mariajo is inspired by travel and has even spent time as artist in residence at the Uttarayan Foundation in India.

Mariajo says that ‘since I was very little I´ve been fascinated by mixing colours and experimenting with different materials, and definitely getting my hands dirty. I am a mess, I just don't know another way!’

We look forward to hearing about Mariajo’s work creating beautiful picture books, her journey and process through illustration and what inspires her work. Following the talk there will be an audience Q&A opportunity.
