"Absolutely loved the course, I thought it was amazing, definitely a skill for life and Richard was great, extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Frequently asked questions

Can I be a complete beginner?

Yes! We have had plenty of people on our workshops who have never laid a hedge before. You just need to have an interest in learning and a basic level of fitness and mobility to enjoy the workshop to the full. You will still get a lot out of the workshop if you have done some hedgelaying previously.

Will I be able to lay my own hedge after attending your workshop?

This workshop is a beginner's workshop and you will be working on a very easy, specially chosen hedge which you are unlikely to meet again in real life! But you will gain a lot of insight into the traditional craft of hedgelaying and our tutor is available post workshop for your questions.

I can only attend on one day. Is that OK?

We prefer people to attend on both days due to the popularity of these workshops.

Where is the venue? What are facilities like?

This year we will be based on a working farm in Pennerley, near Bishops Castle. There is a barn for shelter and a loo on site. This is an outdoor workshop.

What is provided? What do I need to bring with me?

All tools are provided. You can bring your own axe and/or billhook if you wish. Please bring a packed lunch and hot flask and wear suitable clothing for a late autumn/winter's day including a change of clothes if necessary.

What happens if it rains?

We will run the workshop in all but the worst weather, in rain and sunshine.

Is there a cost? What about refunds?

The cost of these workshops is £55 per person for 2 days. If the workshop is cancelled we will arrange a refund for participants. Otherwise the fee is non refundable unless in exceptional circumstances. It represents very good value for money.

What level of fitness is required to take part?

These workshops are held entirely out of doors and you need a good basic level of fitness in order to enjoy them. You will be working with hand tools only.
