2 day introduction to beekeeping course
Overview
If you are thinking about taking up beekeeping, perhaps as a new hobby or maybe a new career, or know someone who wants to learn more about these fascinating creatures, this weekend course can help you. Led by a local Master Beekeeper, assisted by experienced beekeepers, we will provide an insight into and practical experience of the world of the honey bee and the role of the beekeeper. There is plenty of opportunity to ask questions throughout the course.
It is a first step into beekeeping and hope that attendees will be inspired to take up the craft by joining a local beekeeping club to continue their learning.
This is a 2 day course running Sat 25th April at 09:30hrs - 16:30hrs and Sun 26th April 10:30 hrs - 15:00hrs.
Introduction to Beekeeping Course 2026 ‘Terms and Conditions’
1. Refunds
1. Requests for refunds must be made by email to Eventbrite.shipston@wbka.org.uk. Normally, refunds will not be made for cancellation requests received within 30 days of the start of the event.
2. The 2nd day of the course is outdoors at our Training Apiary in Brailes. Should we decide that the weather is unsuitable we will endeavour to arrange an alternative nearby location but this does mean that the colony inspection part of the course will not happen on the Sunday. We will do our best to arrange alternative apiary sessions at one or more later dates so that you can get ‘hands-on’ with a colony of honey bees. Please be aware, if you are unable to attend the offered alternative apiary session we will not issue a refund.
3. If we have to cancel the entire course (both days) for any reason we will of course refund you.
2. Children
1. Children aged 12 - 18 years can attend the course if they are accompanied AT ALL TIMES by a responsible adult.
2. We have a separate agreement that we will require the Responsible Adult to sign for a child to be able to attend the course; contact the Treasurer on treasurer.shipston@wbka.org.uk for further details.
3. Health and Safety
1. You will get a specific briefing on ‘apiary safety’.
2. During the apiary session (depending on the weather; see above) when we open a honeybee colony it is important that you follow the instructions of the beekeeper conducting the inspection at all times.
3. We have beesuits in various sizes for attendees to borrow when inspecting a colony of bees, however you will need to bring your own clean wellington boots and a pair of clean, close fitting, long cuffed ‘Marigold’ gloves, for your own use.
